A fire curtain is designed to lower automatically in the event of a fire. It creates a fire and smoke barrier separating the stage from the auditorium, allowing time for the audience to exit. There are many codes that determine different levels of fire protection, the authority having jurisdiction has the final say in the level of fire protection needed for a facility. There are several designs available, as described below. Determining the exact type of curtain will depend on the design of your facility, please contact a sales representative to help customize your order.

Straight Lift – Motorized Operation
If there is enough fly space in the facility, a straight lift fire curtain can be used. This can lower automatically in the event of a fire, or manually by pushing a button. A lineshaft or motorized brail winch are the most common means of motorization. The convenience of having a motor hoist the curtain will allow the user to lower the curtain and raise the curtain easily to seal off the stage as required by NFPA 80 code. A hydraulic governor is used to control the descent of the curtain. Determining the exact type of curtain will depend on the design of your facility, please contact a sales representative to help customize your order.

Brail – Motorized Operation

Some facilities don’t have adequate space in the fly loft to allow the curtain to raise this requires the use of a brail fire curtain. This type of curtain will stack itself into an area above the stage. A motorized brail winch hoists the curtain up with a push of a button. A hydraulic governor is used to control the descent of the curtain.
