Located on the Civic Center Plaza in the heart of San
Francisco, the New Asian Art Museum represents an innovative
rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the city’s
former 1917 Beaux-Arts-style main library. The
new $ 160.5 million facility was designed by renowned
Italian architect, Gae Aulenti. The elegant lighting
design by Auerbach & Glasow utilizes custom fixtures
along with natural light to show off the building as
well as the museum collections.
Although visitors to the museum never see them, five
Emergency Lighting Transfer Cabinets (ELTC) from Stagecraft
Industries continuously monitor the power to the dimmer
banks controlling the lighting. In the event of a power
failure, these UL1008 safety devices will transfer critical
lighting circuits to the building’s emergency
power so that visitors and staff can exit safely.
The versatility, reliability and compact design of
the Stagecraft ELTCs make them the ideal product
in cases where both wall space and budgets are tight.
The City of San Francisco has always placed the highest
priority on building safety codes and emergency preparedness.
Utilizing Stagecraft Emergency Lighting Transfer Cabinets
assures everyone – from the code inspector to
the museum visitor – that safety is the highest
priority.
