When the USC School of Cinema and Television set out
to create a world-class film and television complex,
they turned to alumni and friends like Ron Howard, George
Lucas and Steven Spielberg. When their general contractor
put together a team of subcontractors to construct the
facility, Stagecraft Industries was chosen to engineer,
manufacture and install the motorized studio rigging.
Working closely with the studio engineers and the lighting supplier, we designed
a series of self-climbing, grid pods up to 12’
x 16’ in size. Each pod provides mounting locations
for studio fixtures and power distribution from the
studio dimming system. Each pod can be independently
controlled with a digital, touch-screen pad custom programmed
for each production
Our engineers developed the self-climbing design to
allow the units to be prefabricated at the factory saving
installation time at the jobsite and holding costs to
a minimum. The USC facility, the first and only digital
training center in the country, was developed in response
to the technological revolution sweeping the film industry.
